Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the VERA-MH website and related content (the “Site”), which is operated by Spring Health, Inc. (“Spring Health,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

VERA-MH (Validation of Ethical and Responsible AI in Mental Health) is a Spring Health–led initiative and independent open-source project intended to support research, discussion, and standards development related to ethical and responsible uses of artificial intelligence in mental health contexts.

By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

1. Eligibility and Access

The Site is intended for a general audience, including researchers, clinicians, policymakers, developers, and members of the public.

You do not need to create an account to access the Site.

The Site is not directed to children under 13.

By using the Site, you represent that you are at least 13 years old.

2. Purpose of the Site

The Site is provided for informational, research, and collaborative purposes only. VERA-MH:

Does not provide mental health services, medical advice, legal advice, or regulatory determinations

Does not operate, deploy, or provide artificial intelligence systems

Does not evaluate, certify, endorse, or approve AI systems, organizations, or products

Content made available through the Site is intended to support discussion and responsible development practices and should not be relied upon as a substitute for professional judgment.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms.

You agree not to:

Submit personal health information, clinical data, or other sensitive personal data

Misrepresent your identity or affiliation in submissions

Use the Site to harass, defame, or harm others

Upload or transmit malicious code or attempt to interfere with Site functionality

Use the Site in a way that implies endorsement, certification, or approval by Spring Health or VERA-MH

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to the Site if we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated.

4. Submissions and Feedback

Voluntary Submissions

You may voluntarily submit feedback, comments, or RFC responses through the Site. 

No Expectation of Confidentiality

Except as described in the Privacy Policy, submissions are not considered confidential. Please do not submit sensitive or proprietary information you do not wish to share.

License to Use Submissions

By submitting content through the Site, you grant Spring Health a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, review, reproduce, modify, summarize, and publish such submissions in connection with the development, documentation, and dissemination of VERA-MH materials, including in aggregated or de-identified form.

You represent that you have the right to grant this license and that your submission does not violate the rights of any third party.

5. Open-Source Repositories

VERA-MH may maintain public repositories. Contributions made through those repositories are governed by the applicable open-source license(s) and repository rules.

Content posted in public repositories is public by design, and you understand that third parties may view, copy, or reuse such content.

6. Intellectual Property

The Site and its content, including text, graphics, logos, and materials, are owned by or licensed to Spring Health and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws, unless otherwise noted.

You may access and use Site content for non-commercial, informational, and research purposes, subject to these Terms and any applicable open-source licenses.

Nothing in these Terms grants you ownership rights in the Site or its content.

7. No AI Deployment or Automated Decision-Making

The Site does not generate automated outputs, perform profiling, or make decisions about individuals.

Information submitted through the Site is not used to train or fine-tune AI or machine learning models and is not used to evaluate individuals or organizations.

8. No Warranties

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.”

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SPRING HEALTH DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

9. No Endorsement

WE DO NOT ENDORSE TOOLS AS BEING SAFE. VERA-MH EVALUATES THE SAFETY OF AI TOOLS BUT WE DO NOT ENDORSE TOOLS AS BEING SAFE BASED ON THEIR SCORE.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SPRING HEALTH SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE.

SPRING HEALTH’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SITE SHALL NOT EXCEED USD $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so these limits may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Spring Health from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, and expenses arising out of your use of the Site or violation of these Terms.

12. Third-Party Links

The Site may contain links to third-party websites or resources. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third parties, and access to third-party sites is at your own risk.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be effective when posted, and the “Last Updated” date will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
